Jennifer Jensen

Director of Sustainability & Strategic Partnerships

Since joining the Sustainable Environmental Consultants (SEC) team in 2016, Jennifer Jensen has held several integral roles. She worked initially as the EcoPractices® manager, moving into the role of manager of sustainable practices and environmental analytics in 2018, and then transitioning into the director role in 2020. As a director, Jennifer focuses on SEC’s sustainability risk management platform, EcoPractices, where she manages and coordinates client projects as well as oversees daily operations, including the collection, storage and analysis of data to generate environmental impact values.

As a passionate advocate for the environment, Jennifer decided to pursue a career in the environmental sector. Being a part of the team and watching the EcoPractices platform grow and transform from the beginning and integrate in with the other SEC service offerings has been rewarding for her.

Jennifer enjoys sharing the scientific benefits of certain conservation practices with producers, bridging the gap between proven practice and implementation with resources for making those practices possible. She also enjoys empowering SEC supply chain clients with the knowledge and data the EcoPractices platform outputs to make decisions and implement business changes for the greater good.

“I think agriculture sometimes gets a bad reputation. There often is a big disconnect and misinformation with labeling, marketing, and the news,” said Jennifer. “Being able to tell a unique sustainability story in a way that is understood by many audiences is important.”

Jennifer holds bachelor’s degrees in environmental science, agronomy, and biology from Iowa State University. During her time at Iowa State, she worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the microbiology, environmental science, and agronomy departments. She had an internship with the Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection Laboratory on a biological project. Upon graduation, she also had an internship with the Iowa Soybean Association on the water quality team measuring the effect of conservation practices before joining SEC.

Since 2017, she has been an active member in the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), and Crop Science Society of America (CSSA). In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and her dog Hutch, being outdoors, and traveling.
